This mask represents a typical character of the commedia dell’arte.It is a stupid lout, of limited intellect and constantly mocked. It’s the typical Zanni and as such is constantly hungry, dreaming abundance of food of all kinds. His costume, early black with shades of gray, has undergone various changes to become the current dress covered with patches of each color. His mask is a devil and wants to indicate the diabolical origin of the character.
